Cooky’s Coffee Cabin

This is a branding, self-driven project and a collaboration with another student. Cooky’s Coffee Cabin is an imaginary coffee shop located in Portland, OR.

We had a lot of freedom with this project. The prompt was to “create a business and the the brand identity for it”. As a team, we decided to go with something that reflected the PNW culture, and nothing represents this area better than coffee. In addition, the design is based on elements from the landscape, as well as some more specific ones related to Portland’s motto “Keep Portland Weird”.

Brand Identity Project

ideation

As individuals we both had very different visions for our logo. One idea was to have a coffee plant and a couple coffee beans to go with the plant theme of the cafe. Another idea was to have some sort of character or mascot representing the cafe as the logo inspired by Portland’ slogan and Big Foot.

We made many variations using different colors and played around with tones, values, and saturations, but ended up deciding to stick to our theme of plants, using a blue-ish green for the primary color and earthtones for the secondary ones.

typography

We decided to create a pattern not only to have it as a brand asset, but also, to use for some pastry paper mock-ups. The elements of the pattern include dynamic type and illustrations that directly reference the business’ name.
